Highest living garden -

Castiglioncello del Trinoro, Sarteano. Michael Cioffi is sponsoring this work and the scholarship of the archeologists at CdT as part of a vision to create in this small village that has been lost in time a center for the arts and humanities. At this center individuals and scholars and artists will gather to hold seminars about art, history, literature and philosophy. Visual artists will paint and sculpt, world class musicians will perform and writers will create new works of poetry and fiction. All of this will take place is the stunningly beautiful setting of medieval CdT overlooking the Val d’Orcia.

The site

In the gaden, Habitats can be defined as architectural units composed by artificial characters (pergolas, tables, sittings, windows) on which vegetable essences are implanted to qualify their use and function.

The physical structures are modular, light, simple, apt at receiving the implant of the various vegetable species. The plants are the projection of the environment, of its typicality and its ecological niches inside the garden. In each garden you can compose different habitats.

In the Highest Living Garden there will be a new attraction in the centre and top of the town. It will be a new archaeological garden. It is a chance to connect CDT to the regional cultural and tourist network.

The archeological event of Castiglioncello del Trinoro is founded and promoted from the society The Maria Mazzone Center for the Arts and Humanities srl, founded by Michael Cioffi.
The investigation has been directed by the Area di Archeologia Medievale dell’Università di Siena, under the scientific direction of the Soprintendenza Archeologica per la Toscana. BFA is the studio that coordinated the actor and the project to the valorisation of the area.
The project represents an important occasion and a relevant case in the panorama of italian archaeology. The peculiarity of the project consist in the fact that the investigating process oriented to a valorisation of the site, has been founded by a private who interpreted the occasion of an archaeological investigation as an investiment to give a new identity to Castiglioncello del Trinoro.

No project for the future can be developed without understanding the past. Past, present and future, memory and design are weaved together to form a unique fabric.
The hope for our future lies in the knowledge of the past.
